Study finds some early breast cancer overdiagnosed

For years, women have been urged to get screened for breast cancer because the earlier it's found, the better. Now researchers are reporting more evidence suggesting that's not always the case.

A study in Norway estimates that between 15 and 25 percent of breast cancers found by mammograms wouldn't have caused any problems during a woman's lifetime, but these tumors were being treated anyway. Once detected, early tumors are surgically removed and sometimes treated with radiation or chemotherapy because there's no certain way to figure out which ones may be dangerous and which are harmless.

"When you look for cancer early and you look really hard, you find forms that are ultimately never going to bother the patient," said Dr. H. Gilbert Welch of the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, who was not part of the research. "It's a side effect of early diagnosis."

The study is the latest to explore overdiagnosis from routine mammograms

How to Burn Belly Fat Exercise

April 2, 2012 by admin

There is no shortage of studies to show that exercises help build muscle, prevent muscle loss, and help with weight loss and can help burn belly fat. One of the best ways to lose belly fat and reduce body fat is to exercise. Strength training and weight lifting is often overlooked by the average person seeking to lose fat.

With weight loss from calorie restricted diets, you often lose some lean muscle mass along with body fat, and when this happens, it gets harder and harder to lose weight. Studies have found that just moderate exercise helps reduce the loss of muscle mass that occurs from calorie restricted diets. By engaging in regular exercise while following a calorie restricted diet, you can limit the amount of muscle mass lost due to the diet.

Each pound of muscle burns roughly 50 calories per day. So if you were to just lose 2 pounds of muscle, you would be burning 100 calories less.

Lose 5 pounds of muscle, and that works out to burning 250 less calories each day. Exercising regularly will help building strength, develop muscle, improve physical fitness, reduce muscle loss while on a diet, and help you burn more fat, which translates to losing belly fat.

For your workouts, try out some of the listed exercises below to burn belly fat:

Front Squats – Front squats places special emphasis on the thighs and the outside sweep of the quadriceps. This is a fantastic exercise to workout your entire lower body.

Squats – Squats is one of the most basic compound exercise for developing core strength.

Deadlift – Deadlift is a compound exercise that you should include in your training program – whether your goals is to build muscle, or burn fat.

Barbell Bench Press – The flat bench press is a compound exercise that builds size and strength in the chest muscle, front delts, and triceps.

There are dozens, if not hundreds of different exercises you can perform to lose body fat and burn belly fat; however, I chose these exercises because they are the “best” for building strength, and for building and preserving muscle mass.

No amount of ab exercise will help you burn belly fat. Just because you are doing exercises that target muscles around your mid section does not mean that it also works to burn belly fat.

What To Look For In Eyelash Extension On The Gold Coast

April 3, 2012 by admin

A lot of people have been looking for lash extensions on the Gold Coast lately. This is because it is one of the most popular procedures being done in Hollywood, and it has taken a while for it to finally make it here. If you have coveted the looks of the Hollywood stars and want those same, thick eyelashes, then you can now get the same false eyelashes on the Gold Coast.

If you are a little frightened of having someone working around your eyes, then you shouldnt be, since the eyelash extensions on the Gold Coast are completely painless and totally safe. These are semi-permanent eyelashes that glued to the base of your real eyelashes. As they grow out, so will the extensions.

The procedure doesnt take long, and it is not painful or dangerous in any way. You can take the lashes off at any time by simply using baby oil and a cotton swab, but most women keep their lashes on for weeks, if not longer.

The benefits of getting eyelash extensions on the Gold Coast are many. You can actually have someone come to you if you are living a busy life. Alternatively, you can go into the salon and have them done quickly and painlessly. You wont have to wear mascara at all, which is one of the greatest benefits, but you will have the look of someone with big, bright eyes and thick lashes.

Many women have a lot of questions about this type of eyelash extension and for good reason they just seem too good to be true. But it is absolutely true that they last for weeks, they will stand up to rain, showers, and even swimming, and you dont need to use mascara at all. For many women, they are a dream come true.

A New Research-Based Sun Safety Program at 40 Hotels and Resorts in the United States to Include Sun Protection Clothing

Share: Tweet02
Apr
2012The Go Sun Smart program is planned for 40 selected resorts in the United States over the next three years and Sun Threadz, a sun protection clothing company, has been invited to be part of this program. Sun Threadz are designed and produced in the USA.

Philadelphia, PA-NJ (1888PressRelease) April 02, 2012 - Go Sun Smart is a research study sponsored by San Diego State University. The purpose of the project is to educate vacationing Americans about comprehensive sun safety techniques and skin cancer prevention. The study is funded by the National Cancer Institute, and has the potential to reach a significant portion of the US population when they are most vulnerable to skin damage from the sun.

Sun Threadz will join the Go Sun Smart project in the fight against skin cancer. Employees of the project will be outfitted in sun safe attire and will visit the resorts and interface with vacationers from a nationwide market. Damage from the sun can be prevented by applying sunscreen, wearing sun protective clothing, wide brim hats, seeking shade when necessary and recognizing when UV is highest and most dangerous.

This program will start the beginning of spring 2012 at twenty resorts and the other twenty resorts will receive the program one year later.

Over one million cases of non-melanoma skin cancers occur annually, and melanoma increased 4% each year for decades, significantly burdening the nation's health system.

The program will use positive, upbeat messages and stories that stress gains from being sun safe consistent with guests' positive vacation experiences to encourage advanced sun safety behaviors. Vacationers will receive important and accessible information that can shift their understanding about over-exposure to the sun while vacationing. Sun safety behaviors are easy to implement but reminders are required to convince vacationers to be sun safe.

Sun Threadz was founded by a melanoma survivor who is an advocate for a sun safe lifestyle.

Significant Weight Loss from Green Coffee Beans

A study presented at the yearly meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS) demonstrated that consumption of green coffee bean extract over a 22-week study period resulted in a 10 percent reduction in body weight – a rather dramatic finding for a single nutrient.

The ingredient in green coffee beans that appears to be assisting weight loss is called chlorogenic acid, which is lost when the coffee beans are roasted.  The study tested two doses of green coffee bean extract: 700 mg per day and 1,050 mg per day.  During the study each participant took the lower dose for six weeks, the higher dose for six weeks, and the placebo for six weeks.  The participants were aged 22 to 26 and made no dietary or exercise changes during the study period.  The average amount of weight lost during the study was 17 pounds, which the researchers felt might have been more if the study participants had taken the higher dose for the entire study period.

The study weaknesses were that it was in a small group of 16 overweight or obese people and the participants were younger (meaning their metabolism may respond better compared to middle age).  Nevertheless, these findings are rather impressive.
