2012BodyMedia FIT teams up with LUNAR for a new design of the BodyMedia FIT Armband.
(1888PressRelease) July 25, 2012 - LUNAR today announced a collaboration with wearable body monitor pioneer BodyMedia to design the housing for a next-generation wireless BodyMedia FIT armband that will continuously transmit information on calorie burn, steps taken, physical activity levels and sleep patterns to any WiFi-enabled device for 24x7 assistance in weight management and monitoring of select medical conditions. Scheduled for 2013 release as part of a partnership between BodyMedia and Sprint, the new LUNAR design delivers a high-fashion form factor reminiscent of personal accessories and jewelry with genuine finishes that elevate the armband to premium status.
LUNAR's main challenge was to develop a sleek new design language that would accommodate multiple embedded technologies, including the proprietary BodyMedia four-sensor system that captures physiological data as well as wireless and GPS componentry. The firm's designers created an airy metal frame with a silver color scheme and patterns that can easily be worn with anything from workout clothes to a casual spring dress.
"Even the best technology needs to be packaged in a way that people will embrace. That is particularly true of a product that is designed to be worn on the body," said LUNAR Creative Director Sandrine Lebas. "With a sophisticated look and proud design, the BodyMedia Armband becomes a badge of honor for the health conscious individual."
"Our armbands are designed to be worn around the clock to continuously collect data that affects health and wellness. As such, they need to fit seamlessly into people's lifestyles," said Ivo Stivoric, CTO and VP of New Products for BodyMedia. "This special edition that LUNAR has created for our Sprint product marks a major advance in body monitor industrial design that will help encourage adoption of our technology by health- and style-conscious consumers."
The BodyMedia FIT armbands works as the ultimate personal fitness monitor by collecting physiological data using four unique sensors that capture over 5,000 data points every minute. This raw data includes measurements of heat flux, skin temperature, motion and galvanic skin response. BodyMedia's algorithms convert these readings into calorie burn, physical activity duration, steps taken, and sleep duration and efficiency. The companion online Activity Manager - available at any time via computer or smartphone - stores that information, allows users to set goals and document daily food intake, and recommends activity and dietary adjustments based on each user's actual calorie expenditure and food intake to aid in weight control and other health and wellness management.

EatSmart Precision GetFit Digital Body Fat Scale Helps Monitor Body Fat Instead of BMI

2012Researchers have recently proven that BMI underestimates obesity rates. The EatSmart Body Fat Scale offers an innovative, at-home means to monitor your body fat and other health metrics.
New York, NY (1888PressRelease) April 06, 2012 - The EatSmart Precision GetFit Digital Body Fat Scale is an in-home health tool used to assess body fat and other health metrics. According to a recently published study in the journal PLoS ONE, body fat is a more accurate indicator of overall health than BMI.
New research states that nearly 4 in 10 adults, whose BMI places them in the overweight category, would be considered obese if their body fat percentage was taken into account. People who fall into the obese category are at a much higher risk for weight-related disease including coronary heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.
Doctors and health officials rely on BMI to categorize whether a person's weight is in the normal, overweight or obese range. The major problem with BMI is that it is an overly simplistic ratio of height to weight. It does not take into account a person's fitness level and overall health, of which body fat percentage is key. Being aware of body composition is an important way to monitor your health. Fortunately, EatSmart provides an in-home solution with the GetFit Digital Body Fat Scale.
The Precision GetFit can measure a person's weight, body fat percentage, total body water percentage, muscle mass percentage and bone mass using ITO BIA technology. BIA sends a safe, low level electrical current through the body which allows the Precision GetFit to analyze body composition in real time. Launched in March 2011, this scale has garnered over 500 customer reviews on Amazon.com, with a 4.7 out of 5 stars average.
"The challenge in today's society is to maintain a healthy weight with a major emphasis on cardiovascular health," states Bill Geronimo, President of EatSmart Products. "Our Precision GetFit Body Fat Scale allows customers to determine their body fat percentage which is a much better indicator of overall health than weight alone. Often times, people get discouraged when they aren't seeing the number on the scale change, when in reality their body composition - percent body fat and muscle mass, is changing for the better."
